Cajun style chili dogs 

Everyone loves a good chili dog, and these Cajun style chili dogs are next level. My version includes andouille sausage that has been bacon wrapped, grilled and topped with red beans and rice, onions and cheese. 

To really take it over the top, I add a drizzle of remoulade for that extra kick of flavor. The next time you are in the mood for something different, ditch the boring hot dogs and give this recipe a try.

Ingredients you will need to make cajun style chili dogs.

Andouille sausage 

Hot dog buns

Bacon (Thin cut) 

Box mix of red beans of rice 

Shredded cheddar cheese 

Diced white onion 

Remoulade sauce  

How to make cajun style chili dogs.

Prepping the sausages.

There are a lot of good cajun style sausages out there on the market. Choose your favorite one!  Start off by wrapping each sausage with 1-2 pieces of bacon depending on the size of the sausage. If the bacon won’t stay wrapped, secure the ends with a toothpick. 

Cooking the sausages.

Fire up your grill and place each sausage over medium heat and continue to cook them until the bacon and sausage is completely cooked through.

If you want your bacon crispier, just continue to cook them until your desired doneness. Don’t forget to toast your hot dog buns too! 

​Prepping the toppings. 

Of course I’m substituting chili with red beans and rice since this is a cajun style recipe. I simply use a boxed mix and follow the instructions on the back.

If you have a homemade recipe you like, go for it. Otherwise the box stuff is still great and can be made quickly. Also set some shredded cheddar cheese to the side and dice up some white onion. I’m telling you there is no better way! 

Assembling it all together. 

Take each sausage and place it into a bun then top them off with red beans and rice , cheddar cheese and diced onions. The finishing touch is the remoulade sauce that brings it all together and reminds me of New Orleans! 

How to make remoulade. 

It’s pretty easy to make a remoulade sauce. Combine the following ingredients together.

  • Mayonnaise 
  • Brown mustard or creole mustard 
  • Apple cider vinegar 
  • Cajun seasoning 
  • Smoked Paprika 
  • Prepared horseradish 
  • Hot sauce (Preferably a vinegar based like Tabasco) 
  • Garlic paste (Can sub with garlic powder

Ingredients

  • 4 Andouille or Cajun sausages
  • 48 pieces of bacon 
  • 4 brioche hotdog buns
  • 1/2 cup of red beans and rice (boxed mix) 
  • 1/2 cup of shredded cheddar 
  • 1/4 cup diced white onion
  • 1/4 cup remoulade sauce 

Instructions

  1. Prepare toppings by dicing white onion, making red beans and rice from box mix and homemade remoulade sauce. 
  2. Wrap each sausage with 1-2 pieces of bacon, then grill them until both are cooked through. 
  3. Toast brioche buns, then lay 1 bacon wrapped sausage into each bun. 
  4. Top each sausage with red beans and rice, shredded cheddar cheese and white onion. 
  5. Finish with optional remoulade sauce drizzle.
