Alabama white sauce also known as white barbecue sauce is made with a mayonnaise base, along with apple cider vinegar, spicy brown mustard, and horseradish along with a few other simple ingredients.
This tangy sauce with a bite is great on french fries, used as a dip, and is the perfect pairing with smoked chicken and especially good on these grilled chicken drumsticks. A great addition to so many dishes, it has a rich flavor and is next level good.
Where did Alabama White Sauce originate from?
This Alabama white sauce recipe was first made famous by Robert Gibson of Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q in Decatur, Alabama. To this day they are known for their white sauce and still dunk their split and whole chickens in this creamy tangy sauce.

How to make Alabama White Sauce.
This is a super easy sauce to make. In a large bowl add the ingredients together and whisk to combine.

If the sauce is too thick you can add more vinegar to thin it out. When I’m using it for chicken I like it on the thinner side. If I’m using it as a dipping sauce, then I like it a little thicker.

Variations to try:
Pretty much every version of white sauce starts with mayonnaise. However you could sub in miracle whip and even some sour cream if preferred. Instead of apple cider vinegar, white vinegar would work too. If you don’t have any cayenne pepper on hand, you can add a few dashes of hot sauce.
How to store.
The sauce can be stored for up to two weeks in an airtight container such as a mason jar. Refrigerate after using and be sure to make extra!
